If you are shopping for a mortgage from out of state, or you moved recently, you have probably hit this: a lender’s site says they lend nationwide, and then it turns out they cannot actually do your loan. So here is the straight version for us.
Two things have to line up. The company has to hold a license in your state, and the individual loan officer has to hold one too. In other words, a company saying it is licensed in 48 states is only half the answer. You also need someone on the team who can sign your file.
